In early July 2003 I took a
drive up to Mount Rainier (14,410') in the State of Washington. During
the entire day the clouds in the sky, in the general direction of the
sun, were bright with iridescence (or
irisation) with some of the most vivid colors of the rainbow. The more
similar the size of water droplets the more the rainbow picture resembles
a coronal ring and the more varied the size of water droplets the more
chaotic the colors of rainbow patches will appear. Each rainbow photo
below was taken on the same day. |
