[11/07/2003] There was a full
moon halo so bright that I could make out a faint rainbow color around
its edges. I would guess this halo was visible for at least a one hundred
mile diameter zone around Los Angeles, California. The moon halo's visibility
was enhanced by haze/ mist and decreased to zero by thick patches of
clouds. Weather forecasters predicted light rain, I could barely see
a sprinkle. Three days before this night I also observed there to be
a moon halo in the same area. It used to be thought a guarantee that
a halo around the moon would be followed by rain. |
